For the past ten years, U.S. News and WorldReport has ranked The Citadel as the top public college in theSouth among masters granting institutions.One of seven departments in the Swain Family School of Science andMathematics, the SDN offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing(BSN), accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education(CCNE). The BSN is offered both as a day program to the SouthCarolina Corps of Cadets and as an evening degree-completionprogram. Established in 2017, the program has grown rapidly andpresently enrolls 80 students.The primary role of the nursing faculty is the pre-licensureeducation of students in the classroom and in the clinical setting.Faculty members are also responsible for scholarly activity andservice. Primary teaching responsibilities include fundamentals,medical-surgical nursing, and health assessment; additionalteaching responsibilities may include pathophysiology orpharmacology.
