Mississippi State’s Blueprint under Dan Mullen

first_imgIn today’s Clarion-Ledger, I wrote about the blueprint Dan Mullen brought to Mississippi State. The architects came from the people he met at Bowling Green — co-offensive coordinators Billy Gonzales and John Hevesy as well as director of football operations John Clark.Mullen also hired Brian Johnson in the offseason, who he recruited to play quarterback at Utah.To bring it all together he used Florida’s roster from 2008, his final year in Gainesville as a guide for success.Mullen brings blueprint to Mississippi StateMullen won’t get the players Florida recruited. Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin and Brandon Spikes were some of the best high school players in the country.Clearly that Florida team had much more raw talent. But their size and skill set matched.“It’s hard to say. Percy Harvin, anybody could recruit Percy Harvin. Brandon Spikes was five-star No. 1 player in the country. Tim Tebow, all those guys, that’s what’s hard to compare because all those guys were just the best position in the country,” Mullen said. “They’re so different even though there are similarities.”Here’s a more in-depth look at each position comparing the size and skill set of each position on Florida’s 2008 team and Mississippi State’s 2014 team. Notice I listed height and weigh first. Some of the players aren’t comparable regarding skill level.
